New leash guidelines are going into impact this week at Willard Seaside in South Portland and a petition is due on Monday to attempt to cease these modifications.
At the moment, canines are allowed on or off leash from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and seven p.m. to 9 p.m. at Willard Seaside in the course of the summer time.
The brand new order that goes into impact Tuesday means canines should be on leash from 7 p.m. to eight p.m., then can go off-leash from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The morning hours are usually not affected.
Using canine toys continues to be prohibited in the course of the summer time, in line with the town’s web site.
Signatures for a petition to attempt to cease the brand new rule that would cut back off-leash hours are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday on the South Portland Metropolis Clerk’s Workplace.
As of Friday, petitioners claimed to have greater than 800 of the required 1,098 signatures, which is 5 % of the voting inhabitants in South Portland wanted by Monday’s deadline.
The petition would transfer ahead to a future South Portland Metropolis Council agenda to request a repeal of the brand new ordinance. If the council fails to repeal the ordinance, the query will go on the poll for a future election.
